Hunger Games Chapter One (In District 11): What's in Your Head?

Cameron ran through the streets and through the outskirts of town, yet Peacekeepers kept gaining their way towards him. There, he held a cob of corn, now running towards his family. Cameron was probably the fastest runner anyone has ever seen, but since there were three Peacekeepers ready to strike at him, it was hard for him to deal with it.

His curly brown hair bounced in radiance as the Peacekeepers were slowed down by a fruit stand. Sadly, those crops were destroyed. One of them still struggled to avoid the stand and ran faster towards Cameron. He sprinted across the narrow path.

While Tessa was riding on a wagon with her father, she noticed some Peacekeepers yelling on the top of their lungs, "GET BACK HERE, WHEELER!!!!" She knew exactly who Wheeler was and needed to help him immediately.

"Dad, can I get off the wagon?"
"Why?"
"Uh..." she hatched a lie. "Um, I forgot my keys to the warehouse."
"Okay, but hurry, I don't want any trouble by the Peacekeepers, you hear?"

Tessa nodded her head and ran the opposite direction of the Peacekeepers, convincing her father she is not going into any trouble. She has the keys dangling in her pocket but wanted to find Cameron as soon as she can. Tessa knows it's not any of her business but she feels as if she needs to help. She soon darted behind a building to where the Peacekeepers were running.

Tessa hid behind a clothe stand that was unattended and saw Cameron running her way. Tessa crawled to an opening and just when Cameron's ankle was an inch away from her hand, she grabbed it. Cameron fell and slid to an opening. He hit his head but was still conscious. He scratched and saw Tessa, who was checking her range if it was visually clear of Peacekeepers.

"Thanks."
"No problem, can I give a word of advice?"
"Yes?"
"If you ever steal, don't make it obvious," Tessa fixed her bang that was on her face.
"I'm sorry?" she seemed vague to him.
"Never run away like that, right away, Peacekeepers will think you stole something. Just act casual."
"What do you know? You're just the farmer's daughter."
"Not to mention a beggar as well," she replied. "We may be farmers but it doesn't mean we have a surplus of crops. Someone usually steals it or an animal eats them all."
"Oh, we'll thanks again, I guess I'll be seeing you again soon?"
"Excuse me?"
"Well, today is Reaping Day. You are twelve, right?"
"Yes."
"Okay," Cameron began to get up from the stand until Tessa pulled him down.
"Ouch! What is it this time?" he asked, slightly annoyed.
"You aren't going like that."
"Why?"
"Peacekeepers memorize people's clothing and faces. It will be a little harder to find runaways if you dress differently," she said. Tessa grabbed a pink cloak and orange shorts. "Change into this."
"Aaww, why pink?" he whined.
"You are a bigger, yes?" Tessa asked.
"Yes," Cameron replied.
"Well, beggars can't be choosers." she shrugged.
"Fine, turn around," Cameron grumbled.

After a grueling thirty seconds of changing, the two got out of the stand and noticed people walking into the town square. There, they saw an escort polishing the crystal balls. The escort announced, "Two hours until reaping!" Cameron glanced at Tessa who looked scared as hell.
